It has become a trend that, lots and lots of telugu movies are getting remade into other langauages. I think no other language movies saw this much remakes in their history. Almost all hit Telugu movies got remade into either Tamil (dominantly) or Kannada or Hindi. If the movie is to-hindi-from-telugu, the director will be a Tamilian.
Recently Salman starring movie ‘Wanted’ was remade into Hindi by Prabhudeva. The source of this film happened to be our own Puri Jagannadh’s Pokiri. The same movie was remade into Tamil as Pokkiri by the same Prabhudeva. Comedy is – the promotions for these two films were having a liner “A Prabhudeva film.” I felt very sad to see this line. But in both the movies Puri Jagannadh had been given credit under the story department. Prabhudeva hardly improvised the movie in Tamil. It was just like a mirror image of Telugu film. Just he changed the positions of the characters located on screen. That’s it! Vijay did well but ordered by Prabhudeva to seriously copy Mahesh Babu’s action. He just did it! Everyone knows.
Now, another Telugu moive – Raviteja starred KICK, directed by Surender (Ashok fame) is ready to go onto sets for Bollywood, under the direction of A.R.Murugadoss (Tagore and Ghajini Fame). We shall see… will they promote film like – A Murugadoss film?
Our producers might be just selling all the rights to the other producers. They should take some risk to promote our own directors to give entry to our directors into Bollywood. Recently I am very much happy with the news – Puri Jagannadh is going to direct a movie for Amitabh Bachchan under the production of his own Guru – Ram Gopal Varma. Let us wish All the best.
